CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES
2021 SUMMER STUDENTS:

Myers, Karp, Patey & Neurauter is seeking a motivated summer student for May 2021.

We are the largest criminal defence firm in western Canada with 11 lawyers that students have the opportunity to learn from. Despite our size, we are a close-knit firm ranging in age and call, but all with the same devotion to criminal law and our clients. Our firm is comprised mostly of lawyers who have articled for the firm, including Mr. Myers Sr. who articled at the same firm 40 years ago. We practice exclusively in the area of criminal defence, including legal aid and First Nations Court. We practice in Provincial Court all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada, most recently R. v. Myers, 2019 SCC 18. We have a collegial atmosphere and enjoy ourselves while providing quality service to our clients.

We train criminal lawyers and take pride in watching our homegrown talent succeed as members of the bar. We train our students in law and advocacy without losing sight of the training in the business of practicing criminal law. Our mentorship does not stop with the end of articles.

We expect our students to be committed to the practice of criminal law and have a demonstrated passion for it. Our students will be in court almost every day either observing or doing substantive work. During articles, the students will conduct bail and sentencing hearings and ideally will run summary trials. The students will also have the opportunity to junior senior lawyers on various matters.

Applicants must be organized and able to work in a fast-paced environment as they will be working alongside two other articling students to assist 11 lawyers at the firm.  Demonstrated experience in criminal law including course work, practical clinics or previous work experience is essential. This position is most suitable to those dedicated to criminal law and social justice.

The student will be required to have full-time access to a motor vehicle and maintain a driver’s licence as travel to jurisdictions outside of Vancouver is required. The student will have to successfully apply for Temporary Articles with the Law Society of BC as a prerequisite for this position.

Please send applications to Lawrence D Myers, Q.C. at: lm@myersco.ca.

Please include a cover letter, resume, law school transcripts (unofficial is acceptable) and letters of reference.

Deadline to apply: April 2, 2021

There are 2 paid positions available for 2L students. Interviews will take place via Skype or Zoom on rolling basis.
